A work in progress
Though I was born in Cape Town, I grew up in the Midlands in a time of industrial decline. There was no shortage of empty buildings and signs of decay. But behind each was the thought of ‘what might be…’
I didn’t take the plunge when younger, but no matter what I was doing in the corporate world, I always dreamt of property.
There is something about bricks and the space they create - the permanence, solidity, honesty and sometimes elegance.
The blank canvas of space that the brick creates.
Allied to this is a love of old buildings and how they can be re-purposed and re-animated into something that has a use in today’s world. When successful, this creates and builds communities. And so, my active journey began with searching and sourcing blank canvases of brick.
Places in which I can see something that maybe others do not. Places that I have planned, designed and fitted out to create an inspiring space where people want to spend time: whether to live, work or play.
My soft spot for older buildings that are not performing their original function is simple: They are the ones with character, uniqueness, a soul. They have a story to tell. I want to continue their journey and create a new story for them.
I think older buildings are just like us: With the right energy and imagination they can be transformed into something more. And with the proper attention to detail, something better.
And so my purpose is creating unique places in which people can live, work and play..
Welcome to my Unique Place.
