The Old Pumphouse
Where in the world?
St Albans, Hertfordshire
I had thought after I sold one of my businesses that it would be ‘living the dream’ to work from home, be in my own space both day and night. I was wrong! Anything more than 2 days at home and it was clear that needed some human interaction and a different dynamism around me...
The more I spoke to people locally, the more I wasn’t alone but folk did not necessarily want to travel to London to work, nor a coffee shop.
This coincided with the Old Pumphouse coming up for sale. I had spoken with Harry Dougall, an old friend about doing something different in St Albans and he was on board. The Old Pumphouse had been neglected over the years, but it was clear it was something special. I wanted a space that was sensitive to the building but would give an aspirational, edgy feel that I (and hopefully others) would want to come to each day in order to do their best work.
It took a hectic 6 months of full rip-out and renovation, but the results are great and something of which we’re very proud.
I use the space regularly and find that having people around gives me a different energy and dynamism and in turn helps with my wellbeing.
